Cell Phone Antenna Upgrades for Wilson weBoost Home Signal Boosters

on September 01, 2016

Getting more signal boost coverage

So you've bought or are thinking about getting a cell phone signal booster from Wilson Electronics (weBoost). The question is this:

Can you get more 3G & 4G cellular coverage with a stronger inside antenna without needing to upgrade to a stronger amplifier?

Mostly yes.

Remember, cell phone boosters are great at amplifying weak cell phone signal and then rebroadcasting the boosted signal inside your home or office. However, there's a fine line between weak signal (-90 to -99 db) to dead zone (-110 to - 120 db).

So it's very important to read cell phone signal strength the right way before thinking about upgrading to a new antenna or even buying a stronger signal booster.

In general, a stronger amplifier is better than a stronger inside antenna. If your dB reading is between -50 db to - 89 dB, then upgrading your antenna should see improved coverage. At -100 dB to -115 dB, it's better to get a stronger amplifier.

So let's go see the upgraded inside antennas for all the major Wilson weBoost signal boosters:

Inside Antenna Upgrades for Wilson weBoost home signal boosters

weBoost Home 4G & 3G, Wilson DT4G & DT3G

Compatible Boosters:

What's In The Box:

The inside antenna that comes included with the entry-level models listed above is a Desktop Antenna that, at best, can boost coverage up to 1-2 rooms. However, our customer data shows coverage ranges from a desktop to 150-250 sq ft (small room).

The Upgrade:

The Panel Antenna is a considerable upgrade, with up to +10.6 dB gain compared to the Desktop Antenna's +3.4 dB gain. It terms of amplification, it's about 5.24X more powerful with coverage up to 3,000 sq ft.

While we often recommend getting a stronger booster like the  weBoost Connect 4G, customers who have already invested in the DT & Home models needing more coverage, but don't want to invest in a new booster right now, should take a good look at the Panel Antenna.

In fact, we think they should be the standard inside antenna that comes with the kit, but hey, we're just the middleman, folks, so put those flaming torches & pitchforks down.

Antennas:

Inside Antenna in the Box:
DT Desktop Antenna (301211)
(Coverage range from desktop to 1,500 sq ft, +3.4 dB gain.)

Upgrade Antenna Option:
Panel Antenna (304447)
(Coverage range from desktop to 3,000 sq ft, +10.6 dB gain.)

weBoost Connect 4G & 3G, Wilson DB Pro 4G & 3G

Compatible Boosters:

What's In The Box:

The inside antenna that comes included with the mid-tier models is a wall-mount directional 75 ohm Panel Antenna with F-connector. At peak performance, it can boost coverage up to 5,000 sq ft. Our customer data shows real-world results averaging at 1,500 to 3,500 sq ft.

The Upgrade:

With +10.6 dB gain, it's already a powerful indoor antenna, so there's no upgrade. But...

You can get an additional Panel Antenna or two for more coverage.

But fair warning, by splitting your signal into two or three parts, you're essentially reducing the power and coverage of one antenna to the others.

Like a full glass of water, you've got some to share. But if it's only enough to satisfy your thirst, no how matter how many cups are at the table, there's just not enough to go around.

So it's important to have good boosted signal coming to one antenna before investing in a second.

In general, with good enough signal, a second antenna helps you focus on covering the priority areas in your home needing the reception first like a living room on one end of the house and a bedroom on the other end.

Antenna:

Inside Antenna in the Box:
Wilson Indoor Panel Antenna (311155) (Coverage range up to 5,000 sq ft, +10.6 dB gain.)

Upgrade Antenna Options:

Two additional Wilson Indoor Panel Antenna (311155-K2) (Complete kit includes three-way splitter, cables, and two extra panel antennas.)

weBoost Connect 4G-X & 3G-X, Wilson AG Pro 4G & 70 (3G)

Compatible Boosters:

What's In The Box:

The inside antenna that comes included with the top-tier models is also a wall-mount directional 50 ohm Panel Antenna with N connector.

At peak performance, it can boost coverage up to 7,500 sq ft. Real-world results ranges from 3,000 to 6,000 sq ft.

The Upgrade:

Like the mid-tier models (weBoost Connect & Wilson DB Pro), you can get additional antennas for more coverage.

Again, it's good to know how much boost you're getting inside your home before getting an extra antenna. Because this option is paired with the most powerful home booster, you should see very good results.
